Connecting Health and Planet
The Dutch Green Health Alliance is the voice for healthcare professionals engaged in Green Committees and Green Teams, as such we are rooted in practice within all domains of healthcare, from primary to long-term care. In addition, we are an important partner in the Green Deal Sustainable Care 3.0 – as co-author and theme leader of the Knowledge and Awareness theme. In this role, we are committed to support and facilitate knowledge development on planetary health and global health, as well as dissemination and implementation of this knowledge.
We are convinced of the importance of a healthy planet by means of reducing healthcare use and preventing unnecessary care, thus contributing to reducing co2 emissions from the care sector. We aim to strengthen the argument for individual and population health being fundamentally linked to planetary health.

Manual for discussing lifestyle and sustainability in the consultation room

Healthy people, healthy planet: working on health and reducing our environmental impact usually go very well together. Following our collaboration at CleanMed on June 11, the Dutch Green Health Alliance has partnered with the Dutch Association for Lifestyle Medicine for a new (and English) version of the manual on lifestyle and sustainability for healthcare professionals (or Green Lifestyle Compass). The manual was developed by our shared intern Jasmijn Bormans.
Evelyn Brakema and the Dutch Green Health Alliance win Sustainability Champion of the Year award

We are very happy to announce that Evelyn Brakema and the Dutch Green Health Alliance have won the Sustainability Champion of the Year Award from Health Care Without Harm Europe. Evelyn and the Dutch Green Health Alliance have been awarded this distinction for our work in connecting green healthcare professionals, sharing knowledge and innovations, agenda setting both national and international. We are very honoured and proud to receive this award.

Partnership Global Health Hub
The Dutch Green Health Alliance (Groene Zorg Alliantie) currently focuses primarily on the Dutch national healthcare sector. However, the challenges we face have a global impact. From a climate justice perspective, the Green Care Alliance feels its responsibility to also have a voice and be part of the global community.
As a partner of the Global Health Hub, in particular Community of Practice we contribute our knowledge, experience and network to GHH’s mission and strengthen the collective movement.
Partnership Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) Europe
The Dutch Green Health Alliance has been a partner of Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) Europe since 2022. On a European and global level we are committed to climate justice, planetary health and act as advocates for sustainable and green healthcare. In this role, we advocate climate and health as the core themes and aim to strengthen the role of healthcare professionals within the healthcare system. Through our activities, the Dutch Green Health Alliance successfully voices the green and sustainable argument inside and outside of healthcare. We continually work on setting a higher bar for (Dutch) ambitions at international climate and health summits (e.g. COP, WHA).

Global Climate and Health Alliance
The Global Climate and Health Alliance consists of health care organizations around the world that share a vision of a sustainable future. The alliance aims to combat climate change and protect and promote public health.
Planetary Health Alliance
The Planetary Health Alliance is a consortium of more than 360 universities, non-governmental organizations, research institutes and government entities from around the world, dedicated to understanding and addressing global environmental change and its health consequences.
Green Planet, Green Care – the book
This book Green Planet, Green Care: about your impact as a healthcare professional is supported and written by a variety of green healthcare professionals from different green teams and committees. These professionals co-wrote this optimistic, practical book. Health and our health care are directly connected to nature. Healthcare professionals have an important position in our society and can play a key role in the sustainability transition. With this book, you will discover what actions you yourself can take in ‘greening’ the healthcare sector.
Whether you work in healthcare yourself or not, whether you already have background knowledge or not: with this book you are quickly updated on the state of affairs and how you can reduce your footprint. This book will also help you define your own position on the complex topic of climate justice. The book is written by professionals who have specialized in greening healthcare in recent years and share their expertise directly with you. The book is published in the Dutch language, but we expect to have an English version by the end of 2025.
